PianoRoll is a dedicated platform for piano enthusiasts, designed to help track and enhance your practice efforts. Whether you're a seasoned pianist or just starting out, PianoRoll allows you to practice, record, share your practice sessions or performances, and connect with a community of fellow piano lovers.
After creating an account, you will see the Upload MIDI button on the navigation bar at the top of the page. Click it and a window for adding previously recorded MIDI will appear. Select a music file from your computer. After uploading, click Publish. In a few moments, your first post will appear in our app. You can also record directly with our MIDI recorder - click the Record button in the navbar and follow the instructions.
MIDI is a very popular and powerful protocol used by all sorts of keyboard-oriented musicians and audio producers. There is no one-size-fits-all answer to the question about recording MIDI on every possible setup, so we encourage you to learn more about it using those resources:

Yes, you retain full ownership of your work when you post on PianoRoll. There is no transfer of copyright. By sharing your recordings, you are only granting permission for others to view and interact with your content within the platform. Your rights as the original creator remain fully intact.
In your profile settings, you can choose to donate your data to science. If you do, your data will be used to create open-source datasets, which will be available to the scientific community. We think it’s a fascinating area of research, and your data could potentially be used to explore new avenues of understanding of music, new instruments, and better musical education.

At the same time, we’re aware that “AI” often gets bad press due to unethical practices about sourcing the training data, and trying to remove artists from the process of artistic creation. At PianoRoll we strongly oppose this mindset and we want our users to have full ownership of their content.
